The Wine Tray
Fowl
Project: Design and make a functional tray for 2 glasses, one bottle and at least one appetizer. Develop your idea to produce your design using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technologies. Think about mass production. The design should be created from a flat wood sheet. Finishing should be considered and specified. Think of ways to keep your design sustainable.
The main objective of this project was to design a wooden tray used to either carry wine, tea, or coffee. Due to time limitations, the final design shown below is only a prototype and still could use some minor adjustments to prepare it for manufacturing. Finally, by this project I had broken out of my comfort zone for symmetrical design and started right off the bat with a unique shaped tray. After receiving positive feedback about the overall shape from the beginning, I chose not to change it one bit moving forward. Essentially, throughout the design process the only comments that were addressed were things such as shape of appetizer dish, depth of cut for wine bottle and appetizer dish and number of total layers. I’m pleased with where the design is at, however, I’m not satisfied with it to call it a final product. So, after break I plan to make the final adjustments on AutoCAD and have it cut by the waterjet machine therefore I can have a fully functioning wine tray.
