The Bread Bowl
Spine
Project: Design a Fruit Holder/Center Piece/Bowl/Container to be mass produced. The object is to be used primarily as a functional decorative element over the dinner table or anywhere else. It can hold fruits, bread or anything else. The design should be created from a flat metal sheet and gain 3-dimensionality through cutting, scoring and folding. Colors should be considered and specified.
The main objective of this project was to design a bowl out of sheet metal that takes advantage of folding or bending techniques. From the initial design of my bowl to the final full-scale model, the design did not change much. Yet, comparing them side by side they look drastically different. Due to gravity issues, the final design did not come out completely per plan, but some minor adjustments were made to engineer it as close to the specifications as possible. If I had to make changes to the design to get it ready to mass-produce and manufacture, I would round all the edges of the limbs to make them less pointy, as well as make them thicker at the ends to support more weight.
